Alcohol and other drug abuse (AODA) prevention continues to be a high need in Jackson County. Opioid and other drug abuse is on the rise, and alcohol abuse among teens and adults continues to be an issue. Jackson County UW-Extension educators collaborate with local coalitions to offer prevention education program. Local AODA-prevention coalitions include:
- Together For Jackson County Kids (TFJCK) is a county-wide partnership of concerned citizens, is committed to enhancing community wellness by promoting positive values and choices and eliminating the negative impact of alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, violence, and related youth risk behaviors. We draw upon private, public, adult, and youth resources.
- Jackson County Tobacco-Free Coalition (TFC) is a prevention coalition focused on tobacco prevention and cessation. The coalition supports such programs as Teens Against Tobacco Use, Wisconsin Tobacco Quitline (1-800-QUIT-NOW) and teen education about other tobacco products.
Grant funds from a variety of sources support a large portion of prevention education programs in Jackson County.
