 Winter Farmer Forum; Cover Crops, Soil Health and Nitrogen

 On Friday, January 13, 2017, the newly formed Buffalo-Trempealeau Farmer Network will be hosting their first “Winter Farmer Forum; Cover Crops, Soil Health and Nitrogen”.   Registration for the meeting will begin at 9:00 am, program begins promptly at 9:30 am and will conclude by 4:00 pm.  It will be held in the Saint Peter & Paul Church Basement in Independence, WI.  The program will feature the following:

 Dr. Heather Darby, University of Vermont, “Covering Corn Silage: Making cover crops work for you”,    Mark Gutierrez, USDA Risk Management Agency, “Navigating cover crops and crop insurance”,  Dr. Francisco Arriaga, UW-Extension/UW-Madison Soil Science, “Soil health on your farm-local results and insight”, Steve Okonek, Trempealeau County UW-Extension “Soil fertility strategies for lean economic times”,  Kevan Klingberg, UW Discovery Farms “Tracking your nitrogen-2016 Results”, and two local farmer panels on 2016 field updates and utilization of new technology. 

The Buffalo-Trempealeau Farmer Network was formed in a response to a call for proposals for a Producer-Led Watershed Protection Grants awarded by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
